Then & Now
Muirhead’s Hiring was started in 1996 by husband and wife team, Bernard and Dawn Muirhead. They took the brave step to become entrepreneurs with a hiring business for bridal couples and local businesses that were hosting events. Their daughter, Sherree, was studying hotel management at the time and she was already headed towards a career in the hospitality industry. And so, a family business was born.
When Sherree returned to her hometown, Pietermaritzburg, she launched Hamblin’s Catering with her chef husband, Renzo Hamblin. Fairly quickly, Muirhead’s Hiring and Hamblin’s Catering became recognised as the ideal end-to-end solution for event planners and bridal couples, allowing couples to have all their event planning and catering needs taken care of under one umbrella.
With the exciting launch of our new floral division in 2022, the team at Muirhead’s is now able to offer a full array of event planning, hiring and floral styling services.
Our team of over 24 staff is based in Pietermaritzburg but we bring colour, magic and joy to the events we support all over KwaZulu-Natal.

Meet Sherree Hamblin, the owner of Muirhead’s Hiring
I have been in the eventing industry since finishing my studies in catering and hospitality, which is a good couple of decades ago! While event organising is second nature to me, I still consider it a joy and privilege to work with our amazing clients to create memorable and extraordinary events.
The job titles I am most proud of are ‘wife’ and ‘mom’ and I am fortunate that my husband and kids are my biggest cheerleaders and are also involved in parts of our family-run business.
One of my guilty pleasures is smashing a tub of homemade ice cream whilst binge watching my favourite series on Netflix and my favourite kind of holiday is at beach break with family and friends. My superhero power is my resourcefulness and my ability to make a plan when an event throws a challenge at me! That’s why our motto is, “Anything is possible – with planning.”
